National Forensic Sciences University was initially established as the Gujarat Forensic University by Government of Gujarat in 2008 at Gandhinagar. It was upgraded to a National University in the year 2020 by Government of India and was designated as the Institution of National importance by an Act of Parliament under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The University is solely dedicated to Forensic and Investigative Science and is the only one of its kind in the world. It has twelve campuses and two Academies spread across the country in different states and one International campus in Jinja, Uganda. More campuses are planned to be established in the near future in different states to increase the outreach of Forensic Science across the length and breadth of the Nation. Besides Academics, the University has a strong focus on Research, Consultancy and Training and has a huge potential of collaboration with the Police and Judicial services as well as the Forensic Labs of States and Central Government.
The Bhopal campus was inaugurated on 22 August 2022 by the Hon’ble Home Minister of India in the august presence of the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and the Vice Chancellor of NFSU along with a host of dignitaries of Government of India and Government of Madhya Pradesh. Immediately after, the Campus became functional and started operating from the transit location of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) building located in the Village Barkhera Bonder on the super corridor of Indore by pass road in close vicinity to many Central Institutions such as Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-National Institute for Research in Environmental Health (NIREH), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and School of Planning and Architecture (SPA). Government of Madhya Pradesh has allocated 27 acres of land in close proximity to the Madhya Pradesh Police Academy at Village Barkheda Bonder where the construction work for a state-of-the-art Campus of NFSU has commenced. The Construction work has been assigned to Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and the new Campus is expected to be fully ready and functional in the next two years. Bhopal Campus is presently offering 02 year post graduate courses including M.Sc. Forensic Science, M.Sc. Cyber Security and M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security and one Professional Diploma of six months duration in Crime Scene Management. The Campus is also offering a five-year B.Sc.- M.Sc. integrated course in Forensic Science. In addition to the above programmes, three students are also enrolled in the Ph.D. programme in Forensic Science.
In just three years of its existence, the response received from students from across the country is very encouraging. The M.Sc. programme has representation from every corner of the country with excellent gender diversity.
In accordance with the Vision and Mission of the university, the Bhopal Campus is all set to grow and make a significant mark in all three important verticals viz. Teaching & Learning process, Research & Professional Practices and Training for working executives.
