National Forensic Sciences University was initially established as the Gujrat Forensic University by Govt of Gujrat in 2008 at Gandhinagar. It was upgraded to a National University in the year 2020 by Govt of India and was designated as the Institution of National importance by an act of parliament under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India. The University is solely dedicated to Forensic and Investigative Science and is the only one of its kind in the world. It has Eight campuses and two Academies spread across the country in different states and one International campus in Africa. More campuses are planned to be established in the near future in different states to increase the outreach of Forensic Science across the length and breadth of the nation. Besides Academics, the University has a strong focus on Research, Consultancy and Training and has a huge potential of collaboration with the Police and Judicial services as well as the Forensic Labs of States and Central Govt.
The Bhopal campus was inaugurated on 22 Aug 2022 by the Hon’ble Home Minister of India in the august presence of the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and the Vice Chancellor of NFSU along with a host of dignitaries of Govt of India and Govt of Madhya Pradesh. Immediately after, the Campus became functional and started operating from the transit location of the Central Forensic Science Lab building located in the Village Barkhera Bonder on the super corridor of Indore by pass road in close vicinity to many Central Institutions of National Importance such as IISER and SPA. Govt of Madhya Pradesh has allocated 27 acres of land in close proximity to the M.P. Police Academy at Village Barkheda Bonder where the construction work for a state-of-the-art Campus of NFSU has commenced. The Construction work has been assigned to CPWD and the new Campus is expected to be fully ready and functional before the commencement of Academic Year- 2026. Bhopal Campus is presently running a two year post graduate course of M.Sc. in Forensic Science and three Post Graduate Diploma programmes of one-year duration in Crime Scene Management, Questioned Document Examination and DNA Forensics. In just two years of its existence, the response received from students from across the country is very encouraging. The M.Sc. programme has representation from every corner of the country with an excellent gender diversity.
The Competent Body of the University has approved two more academic courses to be introduced from AY 2024. As such, in addition to the existing degree and diplomas, the Campus will have one five-year integrated course of B.Sc.- M.sc in Forensic Science and a two-year M.Sc. course in Cyber Security.
In accordance with the Vision and Mission of the university, the Bhopal Campus is all set to grow and make a significant mark in all three areas of Teaching Learning process, Research & Professional Practices and Training.
